Job Position
The mission of the Centre for Food Chemistry and Technology at Ghent University Global Campus, South Korea, is to contribute to the research fields of Food Technology, Food Chemistry, and Food Microbiology.
Research topics include: i) microplastics in food, ii) allergens in food, iii) food proteins, iv) insect-based foods, v) non-destructive analysis of foods for detecting food fraud and food authenticity, vi) life cycle analysis of food production processes, vii) antimicrobial strategies for fruit and vegetables, viii) food digestion.
The members of the Centre for Food Chemistry and Technology contribute to theoretical and practical courses at GUGC. The Centre also prepares students (BA/MA/PhD) for their careers in food science, both in academia, R&D, and food production.
The Centre for Food Chemistry and Technology at Ghent University Global Campus, South Korea, has a vacancy for a Full-time Research Professor (Non-tenured) position, starting from February 1, 2020 (open to negotiation). It concerns a 2-year fixed contract position with a possible extension based on positive evaluation and considering the campus operational circumstances.
The candidate will work under the supervision of Prof. Sam Van Haute at the Centre for Food Chemistry and Technology of the Ghent University Global campus in Songdo, Incheon. The candidate must have experience in obtaining Korean Government Funding and a good publication record.
Job Qualification (Profile of the Candidate)
- You hold a PhD degree in Food Science.
- Required knowledge: You have already conducted research within the field of food science but a good knowledge of food technology would be a great asset.
- Has educational experience; participation in extra-curriculum training, conferences, is recommended.
- Has an independent research and strong self-learning ability; a creative and inquisitive attitude is a must.
- Has strong didactic, communicative and management skills and a large interest in providing and supporting academic education.
- Has an excellent academic track record, an excellent command of English (a minimum score of 80 on the TOEFL iBT test), and good academic writing and presentation skills.
- Must have experience in obtaining research funding and should be able to research related business development activities in Korea.
Job Description
- Assists the research centre in developing research project proposals and finding funding for the Research Centre.
- Assists the Research Centre with teaching of undergraduate and/or graduate courses (including practical exercises) for up to 30 % of your total working time in one or more of the following courses (Modern Aspects of Food, Chemical Analytical Methods, Food Chemistry, Food Technology, Technology of Non-Animal Products, Introduction to Biochemistry: Biomolecules ).
- Assists in the preparation of the above-mentioned courses, following instructions of the lecturer(s)-in-charge.
- Supervises one or more Bachelor’s and Master’s thesis projects.
- Assists with grading, examinations, and other educational duties of the research centre.
- Develops their own line of research in one of the above-mentioned disciplines in joint agreement with the professors of the Research Centre.
- Conducts research projects in the domain of food science, with research interest in food technology being an asset.
- Links up/ cooperates with colleagues at Ghent University home campus in Belgium.
- Helps in the assistance and supervision of PhD researchers in the Research Centre.
- Publish original articles and other publications on the research performed.

Compensation & Benefits for the candidate selected
1. Basic Term of the Contract
- 2 year-contract term
2. Salary
- starts from Annual Base Salary of 46,624,160 KRW (Monthly Salary of 3,885,347 KRW, Gross)
3. Bonuses
-Additional two bonuses in June (92% of monthly salary) and December (100% monthly salary)
4. Two round tickets to Hometown (For foreigners only)
-The selected candidate with foreign nationality, shall have two round-tickets to Home town per year (up to 4,000,000 KRW)
5. Severance
-Severance shall be paid when the contract ends and if the candidate works more than one year.
