Leaving Ghent University
Many practical matters must be arranged when relocating.
Checklist
- Visit your PhD supervisor and/or department and make sure you have fulfilled all the obligations relating to your stay, and that you have received all relevant information and documents.
- Hand in all Ghent University cards, keys ...
- Towards the end of your contract, contact the Personnel Office of the departement of Personnel and Organisation for attestation, payments, etc.
- Do not forget to close your bank account. If this account is used to receive payments from Ghent University, do not close it until all payments have been made. If necessary, make arrangements with your bank.
- Your university account will be disabled once your contract has been terminated. You will, however, have access to your mailbox during 21 days. Using the mail application you can customize the standard bounce message.
- Always remember to supply a forwarding address (NL) before departure.
It might be possible that public services will keep using this address even after you left Belgium.
- Please make sure to hand in your tax form before the deadline.
It is possible (but rather complex) to hand in this tax form from abroad through the online tax-on-web system.
- Make sure all library books are returned.
- If applicable, inform your health insurance fund well in advance that you are leaving the country.
- Register with the university's or faculty's Alumni Office.
